Themis Announces Quorum Automated Management Software Selected by Northrop Grumman Integrated
Systems
Software tailored for real-time automated management of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) selected
for use in the U.S. Air Force Battle Management Command and Control systems
FREMONT, California -- January
18, 2007 --- Themis Computer announced Quorum, it's
distributed computing resource management software for mission
critical applications, was selected for use in Northrop Grumman's
Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) subsystem proposal.
Northrop Grumman's BMC2 effort is being led by the company's
Integrated Systems sector. The BMC2 team includes four other
Northrop Grumman sectors (Electronic Systems, Information
Technology, Mission Systems and Space Technology), plus Harris
Corp., General Dynamics, Cisco Systems, Oracle Corp., Zel
Technologies, Alphatech, L-3 Communication Systems West, L-3
ComCept and CollaborX.
Themis' Quorum is a distributed computing
resource management system for the automated management of
Service Level Agreements (SLAs), applications and hardware
resource in real-time, mission critical distributed systems.
Quorum's automated real- time policy engine can detect a problem
and implement a solution, in as little as 50 milliseconds.
Quorum's responsiveness gives users a high availability alternative
to costly fault tolerant systems, making it one of the most
cost effective solutions on the market. Quorum performs automated
closed loop management of Application QoS (AQoS) and allocation
of resources for real-time systems. When appropriate, Quorum
can implement actions that automatically correct problems,
based on administrative policies that may themselves be dynamic.
The BMC2 subsystem comprises a large computing
architecture including systems that store, manipulate and
exploit data received from multiple intelligence, surveillance
and reconnaissance (ISR) assets in the Air Force's planned
Command and Control Constellation.
The BMC2 subsystem collects and integrates the incoming sensor
data into decision-quality information for Air Force commanders,
helping to create a coherent "picture" of a dynamic,
three-dimensional battlespace. Commanders will use this knowledge
to manage the positioning of ISR and strike platforms in the
theater; identify, track and target incoming cruise missiles;
and define and execute strikes against ground moving targets.
"Our Quorum real-time resource management system was
designed for the demands of mission-critical computing in
military environments. When we first started the development
of our Slice scalable computing initiative, it was painfully
clear that there were no real-time computing resource managers
that could automatically manage quality of service for legacy
applications," stated William E. Kehret, President of
Themis Computer. "Northrop Grumman selected Quorum, because
it is an open architecture, real-time, policy-based solution
that satisfies the program requirements. It is very gratifying
to see our Quorum resource manager selected for this program
and to be joining a team that is designing next generation
systems, to meet the challenges of tomorrow's battlespace,"
Mr. Kehret added.
Quorum enables users to implement a cost effective, scalable,
heterogeneous environment, with a single management interface,
and do so across operating systems, for the application management
of mission-critical systems. Because Quorum implements policy
based management of Application Quality of Service (AQoS,)
an enterprise will be able to set Service Level Agreements
(SLAs) and be assured that they will be globally administered
and that the system will automatically take corrective actions
to insure performance at the agreed level of service.
Quorum supports Linux®, Microsoft® Windows® and
Sun® Solaris for scalable, heterogeneous systems.
Software Architecture
An automated, policy-based system for the closed-loop management
of real-time systems, Quorum supports a Manager-of-Managers
architecture that allows a distributed system to be hierarchically
associated with a higher-level manager. In this way, a distributed
system can be viewed as a single entity and can be integrated
as a Quorum managed asset, within a larger hierarchical system.
Quorum is a standards-based system built on top of the "Common
Information Model / Web Based Enterprise Management"
(CIM/WBEM), a Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) standard
that uses XML to encode CIM objects and transport them via
standard http(s) protocols. Quorum is also fully compatible
with SNMP devices and is extensible to new devices via either
SNMP or CIM/WBEM
Themis' Quorum system is available in two versions: the high
availability module, called Quorum AM and the Quality of Service
module called Quorum FM. Once installed, the product features
are activated by license keys for each module, allowing for
simple field upgrades.
