Themis' new CoolShell blade server is designed for applications
that need a compact, lightweight computing solution that must
operate in demanding environments. CoolShell uses commercial
off-the-shelf components to bring blade server efficiency
and total cost of ownership to environmentally challenging
applications.
Themis Computer has developed a breakthrough in scalable
computing for mission-critical systems. By housing commercial
computing resources in a standards based, purpose-built enclosure,
the Themis CoolShell™ provides resilience with superior
thermal and kinetic management. This open and modular design
allows for spiral technology refresh, preserving computing
infrastructure investments for complete lifecycle management.
Themis' CoolShell accommodates shock and events up to 30G
at 25 ms without external isolation. Themis CoolShell blade
servers provide thermal footprint headroom to accommodate
aggressive scaling of commercial microprocessor core density,
speed and power.
CoolShell CS-3U System
The CoolShell CS-3U blades install directly into a 3RU high
subrack. The 3RU subrack accommodates up to three CoolShell
blades and two Intel® Xeon® sockets. Each subrack
includes a backplane, N+1 redundant power supplies (PSU's)
and a large compliment of I/O. The CoolShell Subrack provides
internal cable management, minimizing total cost of ownership.
The CoolShell Subrack mounts into a standard 42U rack, for
a total of ten 3RU CoolShell Subracks, or four 10.5RU CoolShell
Subracks. CoolShell only occupies 17" rack depth, ideal
for shallow rack applications such as telco wiring closets.
CoolShell CS-3U features include:
• One (1) Processor Blade.
• One (1) I/O Blade.
• Media Module
• Redundant, hot-swappable
power supplies.
The Themis CoolShell CS-3U Processor Blade is based on industry
standard motherboards. The motherboard is enclosed in a light
alloy clamshell, isolating the electronics from the environment.
Integrated blowers for lower acoustic emissions and provides
lower total cost of ownership.
The CoolShell CS-3U Processor Blade features:
• Two (2) Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors
• Two (2) Audio outputs
• Mechanical support to mitigate shock and vibration.
• Forms a Faraday cage around the electronics to control
emissions.
• Protects the electronics from dust and dirt contamination.
• Self contained, speed controlled fans.

CoolShell I/O Module
The module contains three slots for I/O cards. Each slot
can accommodate a PCI Express or a PCI-X card. The I/O module
connects to an individual CoolShell processor blade via a
PCI Express bus, through the system backplane. The I/O module
is 1U high and blind mate connects into the 3RU or the 4RU
subrack. I/O connector access for the three I/O cards, is
at the front of the module. Six USB 2.0 ports are also included.

Designed for use in the CS-3U, the Media Module is removable
and includes:
• Six (6) USB 2.0 Ports
• Seven (7) Optical or Copper GigE Ports
• One (1) Removable 2.5-inch Hard Drive
• One (1) DVD/CD Drive
